It’s a new year! And I’m going to start blogging again, with a picture a day. I got a new camera for my birthday and this will be a good way for me to practice.

Lard Crust? Nope
I really wanted to try out an apple pie recipe that I read about on a pie blog, which used an all lard crust. It was way too salty. I also learned that I have to pay attention to the pie crust…I Cabot be distracted by the Oscars. This pie did not turn out.

Apple Pie
The crust was a little more successful on this one, because I used more water. I used a combo of butter and shortening for the fats; I think next time I’ll stick with just butter. The filling wasn’t quite right. Dad said it needed more sugar. I think it had too much nutmeg and I wasn’t a fan of the flavor of the Jonagold apples.

Cherry Pie
Had problems with the crust…need to add more water next time. Also, the Walmart brand cherry pie filling hardly has any cherries in it.

Dear Blog
I don’t know why we haven’t kept in better touch…it is mostly my fault. OK, it’s all my fault. I have made lots of promises to you – like writing more about Tunisia and being more interesting, but what can I say? I’m lazy; it’s true. That and my internet service is slow, which makes blogging kind of a drag…but here’s to doing better!
(Yes, this is the Eiffel Tower, a pic from the overnighter I spent in Paris on the way home from Tunisia. Just so you know, one night is not enough to spend in Paris. )

Trip to the Nail Salon
First you have to pick out a color…
Megan chose a shiny reddish pink and Lindsay chose a sparkly pinkish red.
Then you get to sit in the chair and get things buffed, shaped, filed, clipped and soaked…
Ta Da!
